Larry was born December 20, 1949, in Rising Star to Deotis and Lura (Caraway) Tennison. The family moved from Cross Plains to Clyde when he was about two years old. He attended Clyde schools from first grade until graduation. He always liked raising livestock. He grew up liking big trucks and wanted to drive them. He started driving trucks in 1970. He started his own company in 1996, Larry Tennison Trucking Company. He operated his company until June of 2023 when he had to retire due to medical problems.
